What is ERP in the manufacturing industry

ERP trends 2019

ERP systems act as providers and buyers of services or materials and must be able to connect to such platforms. In the medium term, smart contracts and the use of distributed ledger technologies such as blockchain can then be used to negotiate contracts between suppliers and buyers.

6. Master data management - more important than ever

The success or failure of digitization efforts depends to a large extent on the data that is exchanged between the partners in the value-added networks. Automation of processes is not possible without a reliable database. The completeness and correctness of master data makes digitization possible in the first place. In addition to the organizational anchoring in the company, it is important that the processes for creating, maintaining and harmonizing master data, especially in ERP systems, run in a controlled, stable and secure manner.

ERP systems hold a large number of relevant master data: article data, suppliers, customers, batches, serial numbers, communication data, classification data and much more. A large part of this either determines the end point of a communication path (customers, suppliers, marketplaces, ...) or describes a product (hopefully) clearly.

7. Usability is more than just a GUI

The functionalities in the established ERP systems, which have often grown over the years, cause a high level of complexity, at least occasionally, which is difficult to understand.
