What makes an ideal manager
Not all managers are created equal: 10 characteristics of successful leaders
Not all managers are created equal. But despite their different characters, many executives have one thing in common: professional success. And according to business psychological studies, this is due to the following properties, among others:
1. Public speaking skills
Oratory is probably one of the most important skills for being a successful leader. On the one hand, it is indispensable for a convincing effect. On the other hand, rhetoric determines a person's charisma to a large extent. In contrast to character traits, rhetorical skills can be learned and practiced comparatively easily. It is important to pay attention to your own voice in addition to the content. A pleasant but assertive voice is a secret of the success of many executives.
2. Ability to think critically and analytically
Executives, especially in the economic sector, usually combine their critical and at the same time very analytical way of thinking. Thanks to this, they can quickly assess situations, identify possible problems and find solutions. In conjunction with a broad horizon of experience, this usually leads to the right decisions. The same applies here:
The ability to think analytically can be trained.
Take advantage of professional advice and training opportunities.
3. Concise reasoning and action
Experienced managers know how to get to the heart of things and how to prioritize their actions. This is reflected in both conversations and reports and is often very much appreciated by negotiating partners and employees. In view of a daily extensive flood of information via email and telephone, this property can provide plus points on the career ladder.
4. High reading skills
In order to get into the management floor, it is helpful to have very good reading skills. Firstly, it is useful to see the reports of your own employees and colleagues with a few glances. Second, understanding current specialist books and articles enables a constant broadening of horizons. Third, it can also be beneficial to find out a message or two between the lines.
5. Ability to listen
Although they are considered doers, successful entrepreneurs and managers often know how to listen excellently. Not without reason. Because an open ear and a good perception sharpen the understanding for partners, customers and employees and represent an ideal basis for upcoming decisions. This characteristic is always interplay with the ability to argue and act concisely in the right place.

6. A high level of motivation
The concept of motivation is viewed from two perspectives on this point. On the one hand, success at management level is closely linked to one's own motivation. On the other hand, leaders tend to be excellent motivators who can move people with their words and actions. A few basic skills in motivational psychology are helpful for this. For example, psychologists distinguish three types of motives for doing something: the achievement, the connection and the power motive. The former refers to people who like to face challenges, for example. The connection motive works with people who are motivated by the prospect of interesting social contacts. The power motive is an important driving force in people who like to determine and influence others.
7. Ability to think creatively
Think differently and break new ground. Not infrequently, creative and even crazy solutions lead to the goal. This is shown, among other things, by numerous advertising campaigns. But creative approaches are also in demand in the area of personnel management. For example, the creative involvement of employees in key company issues often leads to innovative developments and ideas.
8. Networking qualities
Success needs networks. And networks of friendships, colleagues and business partners require intensive maintenance. If this is correct, nothing stands in the way of success. In this regard, women in particular should learn from their male colleagues. Scientific studies have shown that female executives do not understand how to successfully network and just relax "After-work beer" to meet. But this is usually less due to the will to build networks. Much more women invest the necessary time in the family. Here it is important to find possible solutions together with the respective partner.

9. Ability to delegate
Excellent executives know that they also have to hand over tasks because they cannot do everything themselves. In view of this fact, they understand how to use existing networks of partners and employees and their potential and how to delegate tasks. In order to implement this successfully, it is advantageous to be able to analyze areas of activity comprehensively and to have extensive knowledge of human nature.
10. Adaptability and development ability
The constant willingness to develop further and to work on one's skills as well as flexibility and adaptability to new situations and ways of thinking are also central characteristics of successful managers.
