What are some characteristics of Guernsey

Guernsey and Herm - dream beaches like in the Caribbean

Info

Getting there: In the season (summer flight schedule) Air Berlin flies non-stop to Guernsey (GCI) from Düsseldorf and Stuttgart on Saturdays. Flights with flybe, e.g. from DUS or Amsterdam, go via Southampton. In the off-season, getting to and from GCI via London, e.g. with easyjet, is very tedious.

Money: The British pound is valid on all Channel Islands. You can also pay with the Guernsey or Jersey Pound (1: 1 to the UK currency).

Accommodation: There are plenty of hotels in all price ranges and bed & breakfasts. Some tour operators (e.g. TUI-Wolters, DER Tour) also offer the Channel Islands as a flat rate. The prices are between 600 and 1000 euros for a week including British breakfast.

Souvenirs: A fairly sturdy Guernsey sweater is a weatherproof but bulky one-of-a-kind item that costs around £ 70. Guernsey cheese (tip: shrink it in foil) is a delicious souvenir. In addition, a one-pound note (in the UK only as a coin) is only in circulation on the Channel Islands. Duty-free shopping is not worthwhile - too expensive!

Activities: Water sports, golf, biking, hiking, sea kayaking, coasteering. Saving tip: With the bus routes 91 and 92 you can go around the island for one pound from the central bus station in “Town”. www.donkeysdaysout.co.uk + www.outdoorguernsey.co.uk

Trips: Ferries and small boats go to all other Channel Islands only from Guernsey.
Travel literature: The new Baedeker “Channel Islands” provides comprehensive and in-depth information as usual.

ISBN: 9783 829 714006, 19.99 euros.
