What jobs do women get in prison?

navigation

The Zurich West Prison (GZW) is part of the police and justice center that is currently being built on the site of the former freight yard in Zurich. It will have 241 places - for people who have been temporarily arrested or who have been placed in pre-trial detention. The GZW will start operations in spring 2022. The new prison will employ over 140 people, 100 of whom will mainly be entrusted with care and supervisory tasks.

Now the penal system and reintegration (JuWe) begins with the composition of the teams. Important key positions have already been filled, and a further 100 employees will be sought as part of a recruiting campaign over the next few months.

Both employees with professional experience in the penal system and lateral entrants are eligible for the positions. Marc Eiermann, head of the GZW, encourages those interested: “The work in the penal system is complex and has long since nothing to do with the cliché notion of a“ guard ”. Among other things, empathy and strong communication skills are required. " People who want to give their professional career a new direction can look forward to a meaningful task at the GZW. You can expect an interesting everyday life and an apprenticeship with full wages - including a federally recognized qualification.

The selection process is demanding and consists of several stages, including an online assessment, an application day and a security check. This is followed by an intensive two-year training course. In addition to on-the-job training, this includes internal courses as well as training to become a specialist in law enforcement. It is aimed at men and especially women who are over 25 years of age and who have completed at least three years of vocational training.
